Snow White Surprises at the Box Office with $200 Million
After a challenging run in cinemas, Snow White finally achieved a milestone by grossing $200 million worldwide, surpassing many Disney live-action remakes. Despite its impressive box office performance in 2025, Snow White struggled to cover its production and marketing costs, leaving Disney with a significant financial burden.
Snow White Falls Short of Disney’s High Expectations
While Snow White achieved a commendable box office figure, it fell short of Disney’s blockbuster standards, failing to reach the billion-dollar mark set by some of its predecessors. The film’s inability to recoup its production budget in theaters left Disney in a precarious financial position, highlighting the need for cost-cutting measures in future remakes.
Snow White had a substantial production budget of $270 million and a marketing budget of $70 million. According to Collider, the film needed to gross between $540 million and $675 million just to break even. Unfortunately, it only managed to earn $42.2 million in its opening weekend, signaling a financial struggle ahead.
Snow White Struggles to Break Even Despite Box Office Success
Despite its eventual box office success, Snow White took six weekends to surpass the $200 million mark globally. While this achievement is noteworthy, it pales in comparison to Disney’s other blockbusters. The film’s inability to fully recover its production costs in theaters paints a grim financial picture for Disney, marking it as a box office disappointment.
Snow White Faces Tough Competition in Disney’s Remake Lineup
Although Snow White faced challenges at the box office, it fared better than some of Disney’s other live-action remakes. For instance, 2020’s Mulan struggled to recoup its budget due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. In contrast, Christopher Robin managed to gross over $197.7 million, showcasing a mixed bag of results in Disney’s remake portfolio.
