Detrás del impactante final de Igor en Sisu: Road to Revenge
In an interview with ScreenRantGrant Hermanns for the second installment, Helander explained the reason why Igor (Lang) was blown up with a missile in Sisu: Road to Revenge. The director claimed that his death was the first idea he came up with for the train scene, so it was inevitable that he would be killed that way. See what Helander had to say below:
ScreenRant: Speaking of Igor’s death, I was pleasantly surprised by its brutality with the combination of the warhead that impaled him and caused him to explode. How many iterations of a legendary death did you give when writing the script?
Jalmari Helander: I always knew I would die with the missile because that was the first idea with the train. I thought how cool it would be to travel on a train moving with the rocket engine of a large missile. So when I had that, I knew the missile would be its seat.
La escena clave de la película
The train sequence was the most important element of Sisu: Road to Revenge ending, with Aatami originally using the missile as reinforcement to reach the fleeing Igor. The couple fights, and Lang’s character nearly overwhelms the protagonist. Fortunately, the missile is still armed, killing Igor and allowing Aatami to return to Finland, his revenge satisfied.
Violencia y acción en la secuela
Reviews of Sisu: Road to Revenge have emphasized the greater amount of violence in the sequel. This includes a series of creative death scenes for numerous characters, mostly cannon fodder as Aatami tries to get to Igor. The antagonist, however, died the fiercest death of all, making for a climactic, high-octane ending to the action film.
Sisu: Road to Revenge has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics as of this writing. The praise available for the film’s action scenes is what makes it stand out among others in the genre. As Helander states, the death of the missile was the underlying idea for the train scene, further emphasizing how the film’s action is its central element.
El legado de Lang en la pantalla
The grounded action film won’t be the only villain role Lang will have on film this year: the actor will return as Colonel Miles Quaritch in the cast of Avatar: Fire and Ash. However, his Igor remains memorable not only for how he played Tommila’s Aatami but also for his savage death scene.
Given how memorable Sisu: Road to Revenge did the death of the main villain, it’s clear that Helander and the team behind the film have a knack for creating brutal yet satisfying death scenes. It makes the action sequel stand out in the market, while also providing a fitting conclusion to the second chapter of Aatami’s story.
