The agronomist Eduardo Macaya Zentilli, father of the senator and president of the UDI, Javier Macaya, spoke publicly this Tuesday, for the first time, about the trial for child sexual abuse that he faces, and which could cost him 12 years in prison.
«I trust that my complete innocence will be proven. I am not willing to acknowledge participation in events that have never occurred,» he said in the Oral Court of San Fernando, in a written statement that he read before the press, and in which he accused political bias. of the Prosecutor’s Office and repudiated the «carnage» and the «media show» that – he said – have marked the case.
«If it were not for my son’s position, this cause would not exist,» he stated, highlighting that his entire family has supported him from the beginning, including his children; the parents of the alleged victims: «None of them are denialists or cover-ups of the aberrations that the Public Ministry has tried to establish. They know what has happened,» he said.
Macaya Zentilli stated that the Prosecutor’s Office «bases all its evidence on an edited video», but that «it does not correspond to videos of abuse, but rather to a family environment, in a common and busy place in my house.» On the other hand, the supposedly affected girls «have denied in all professional technical instances, and with their own family members,» that they had been sexually assaulted by him: «An attempt has been made to turn them into victims without being victims»:
