Within the framework of the National Assembly of Mayors of the Chilean Association of Municipalities (AChM), the President Gabriel Boric He insisted this Thursday that Your Government is not going to allow acts of corruption.
This, in the midst of the commotion that the announced formalization of Daniel Jaduemayor of Recoleta and one of the important figures of the ruling Communist Party (PC), who on May 29 will face charges for alleged crimes of bribery, unfair administration, tax fraud, concealment of assets and fraudin the so-called case Popular Pharmacies.
During his speech at the inauguration of the summit of communal leaders, the President – who faced and defeated Jadue in the Approve Dignity presidential primary in 2021 – maintained that ««probity is a fundamental principle on which democracy must be based.»
«We know that no society is exempt from experiencing cases of corruption or lack of probity; the difference is made in how we react to it, how we do not let it pass and we fight it head-on. Therefore, we have to guarantee citizens that «We are going to be firm against every act of corruption, wherever it comes from, and we are not going to allow a few to take advantage of the resources that belong to everyone.»Boric assured.
«I insist: we have to proudly defend political activity as an honest activity, as a transformative activity, and in this way recover trust in democracy and its institutions for the good of Chile and its future,» he stated.
Along these lines, Boric stressed that he has taken and will continue to take anti-corruption measures: «As a Government we are implementing the National Public Integrity Strategy that we presented last December and the recommendations of the Jaraquemada Commission, which also contains measures at the municipal level. In this framework, the Government’s efforts in this matter are currently concentrated on the Municipal Integrity billwhich is being processed in the Senate and which, for example, establishes more control over municipal corporations and foundations and improves internal control,» he highlighted.

Next, he assured that he is «absolutely clear that, Sometimes, the sacristan’s care kills the priestin the sense that we have to be careful and find that balance between the efficiency of spending and the timeliness of spending and the controls and transparency that we have to have, because many times we have created institutions that are not coherent with each other and that generate more problems than benefits or solutions.
«Therefore, all these matters of probity, which are tremendously important and essential for the strengthening of democracy, also have to be accompanied by a logic of what this is going to imply for a mayor of a small commune or a a rural commune,» added the President.
«Here you cannot think of everything as if everyone had exactly the same resources and the same powers and, therefore, the vision of the public honesty strategy also has to have a decentralized vision,» he emphasized.

We must try to understand in another way, with more humility, the things that we have to face «And you can’t force everyone to do what you think is right, but you do have to demand it from yourself.»
«We, as a Government, hold ourselves to a certain standard and apply it in all cases, and When third parties are involved, we do not prejudge; That is the work of justice.»he remarked.
