In less than a month Chile will host one of the most important events on disability and labor inclusion worldwidethe 2024 Conference «Education without Barriers», which will highlight the best practices from Latin America and the Spanish-speaking world that promote the inclusion of people with disabilities.
Also known as the «Oscar of inclusion» – since it annually awards the best projects and initiatives worldwide – the Zero Project event will have its regional version at the W Hotel in Santiago starting May 7a conference that will bring together more than 85 exhibitors specialized in three key topics to address the comprehensive integration of people with disabilities: education, business inclusion and accessible technologies.
The event will be held both in person and via streaming with free registration, and will feature exhibitors such as Sara Minkara, current special advisor on International Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the United States Department of State, who has traveled the world fighting for equal rights. She is joined, among other guests, by Special Olympics board member and former Ecuadorian foreign minister, Luis Gallegosand the Chilean Maria Soledad Cisternasspecial envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations on Disability and Accessibility between 2017 and 2023.
Chilean experts and initiatives recently recognized by Zero Project will also be present, such as the Institute of Deafness, whose Intercultural Bilingual Education Program, a pioneer in Latin America, was presented at the Zero Project Conference at the UN headquarters in Vienna. Another national institution present will be the UC Down Syndrome Centerwhose Comprehensive Development Stimulation Program (PEID) was highlighted for encouraging the creation of expert professionals through the delivery of training tools to children and young people with Down syndrome.
