Congress approved the Mercosur Roaming Agreement -which had been signed in 2019-, and will allow the elimination of the collection of roaming for people traveling to Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
The measure became official this Thursday morning, with the publication of Law No. 27,740signed by the heads of both chambers of Congress, the vice president Victoria Villarruel and the deputy Martin Menem.

In this way, an Argentine tourist who travels, for example, to Brazil, will not need to contract that coverage from his telephone company and use it outside of Argentina. there will be no extra cost.
Specifically, the agreement establishes that “mobile telephone providers must apply to their users who use international roaming services, the same prices they charge for mobile services in their own countryaccording to the modality and plan contracted by each user.”

For its effective implementation, the National Communications Entity (ENACOM) must regulate itso that cell phone providers know how to technically ensure that calls between cell phones do not have to pay more for roaming.
“We are analyzing the implications of the novelty to adapt any changes that may be necessary. Soon we will be able to have greater clarity,” they told Clarion sector sources.
In 2019, in the middle of the Mercosur heads of state summit, the – at that time – Argentine foreign minister Jorge Faurie confirmed the measurewhich had to be approved by the parliaments of the four nations before being implemented.
