The search for the following Harry Potter was a prevalent feeling in the industry in the early 2010s. However, ongoing controversies surrounding author JK Rowling have shifted the focus away from this phenomenon in pop culture. Now, the recent children’s series by British fantasy author Katherine Rundell, «Impossible Creatures», has caught the attention of Disney.
Disney’s Acquisition
Deadline reported that Disney has secured the rights to adapt the first two books in Rundell’s «Impossible Creatures» series in a seven-digit agreement. The first book was published in 2023, followed by «The Poisonous King» this year, with plans for a total of five books in the series. Rundell is personally handling the adaptation of the books into scripts.
