The Future of the Predator Franchise: What Can Fans Expect Next?
Exciting news for Fans of the Predator franchise as Dan Trachtenberg hints at more projects in the works beyond Prey. Trachtenberg, who revitalized the franchise with 2022’s Prey and the recently released animated anthology Killer of Killers, has revealed that he has been secretly working on at least one more project.
Trachtenberg’s Vision: A Glimpse into the Future of the Predator Universe
«The reason I felt compelled to work on both Killer of Killers and Prey at the same time was because I was eager to get to the third thing.»
Why did Trachtenberg choose to work on Killer of Killers and Prey simultaneously if the third project is so intriguing? Could it be related to Prey or Killer of Killers in some way? While we can only speculate at this point, it seems that the director has a clear vision of where he wants to take the franchise next. According to Trachtenberg, his ideas stem from a desire to explore new territory in the Predator series:
«There are a lot of great ideas, and none of them are like, ‘Oh, we have to tell the next part of this story because it was successful.’ It’s all like, ‘Whoa, no one has done that in science fiction.’ All those ideas stem from that instinct.»
The Legacy of the Predator Franchise: In Safe Hands
Following the disappointing 2018 sequel, The Predator, the franchise seemed to be on shaky ground until Trachtenberg stepped in with the prequel that would eventually become Prey. The film received widespread acclaim upon its Hulu release in August 2022, thanks to its focus on character development, a rarity in the franchise.
Similarly, Killer of Killers proved to be just as good, if not better, than Prey, setting high expectations for Páramos later this year. Based on the teaser trailer (seen above), we can expect a fresh take on what makes the predators tick, as the movie follows an outcast who forms an unlikely alliance with a Weyland-Yutani android on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.
With Trachtenberg at the helm, the Predator franchise is in good hands, with each project he touches turning to gold. While we eagerly await what comes next after Páramos, we can only hope that he stays with the series for years to come. In the meantime, you can catch the new Predator film in theaters on November 7th, and both Prey and Killer of Killers are available for streaming on Hulu.
