This Thursday, May 9, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) summoned a general strike in which several unions will unite to demonstrate against the Base Law. It is the second strike they have carried out since Javier Milei assumed the mandate and the measure will affect different sectors, among them, the public transport.
When will public transport stop working?
According to him release published by the Unión Tranviarios Automotor (UTA), they indicated: “We inform that as a consequence of the measures of the National Government taken directly against the working people, and openly aimed at violating basic individual rights, the Unión Tranviarios Automotor joins the claim of the entire society, and adheres to the measure established by the CGT for next May 9.”
Therefore, they detailed that the national strike It will last 24 hours, from 00:00 to midnight transportation services will not be available. And they added: «We ask the authorities who have in their hands the decisions that are affecting the lives of the vast majority of the People, to reflect and understand the scope of the mandate that was granted to the Executive and Legislative powers, and that based on this and in compliance with the National Constitution, act accordingly, in defense of the interests and well-being of all Argentines.»
In the case of trains, La Fraternidad confirmed its participation through a statement on its official website: “La Fraternidad adheres to the national strike called by the CGT against the adjustment, the Base Law and in defense of the rights of workers.” Also the Union Association of Subway and Premetro Workers (AGTSyP – Metrodelegates) indicated that there will be no subway or premetro service.
