¿Qué significó el cameo descartado de Wolverine para los planes de los Cuatro Fantásticos de Fox?
Marvel’s first family may have found their place in the MCU, but Reed Richards Original from the Fantastic Four has finally opened up about discarded plans for a Wolverine cameo in the 2005 film. Serving as the sixth Marvel movie released by 20th Century Fox after the success of 2000’s X-Men, fans have been eagerly watching for X-Men Easter eggs ever since.
In addition to journal covers referencing X-Men and cast members James Marsden and Rebecca Romijn, the original DVD release of Fantastic Four also contained a deleted scene where Reed Richards, played by Ioan Gruffudd, tries to impress Sue Storm, portrayed by Jessica Alba, by using his powers to transform his face into the «strongest man,» which turns out to be none other than Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
In an interview with Vulture, Gruffudd discussed the infamous deleted scene and the attempt to introduce a Wolverine cameo in Fantastic Four. He expressed his admiration for Jackman’s character, stating, «I loved the opportunity to pay tribute to Jackman’s character.»
«I don’t know why that didn’t make it into the movie. Paying tribute to the great Hugh Jackman was a great thrill because I absolutely love him as an actor and his Wolverine. I’m glad I got the chance to exist somewhere.»
Gruffudd also revealed that the scene was originally filmed during reshoots, and although he and Alba were not physically together during filming, they managed to synchronize their performances perfectly.
«That was a reshoot, and I was in Vancouver on a sound stage, and Jessica was in New York, so we weren’t really together, but we saw each other perfectly synchronized.»
Nuestra opinión sobre la famosa escena eliminada de los Cuatro Fantásticos
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a cinematic giant, the franchise still owes much to the pioneering work done by 20th Century Fox in the early 2000s. Despite the X-Men and Fantastic Four films never officially crossing over, they included Easter eggs that hinted at their shared place within Marvel Lore.
When Fantastic Four was released, Jackman’s Wolverine had already become the most recognizable face of the X-Men franchise. The scrapped cameo suggests that Fox may have tried to establish stronger links between the two properties, especially considering the possibility of an X-Men vs. Fantastic Four crossover film.
Years before interconnected cinematic universes became the norm, even minor crossovers generated considerable excitement among fans. While crossovers are now expected in the genre, scenes like these were once the pinnacle of comic book fandom.
Even though the Wolverine cameo was relegated to a deleted scene on the original DVD release of Fantastic Four, fans remain fascinated by the connections between Marvel’s properties before the MCU existed, serving as a reminder of how far comic book films have come.
