Dora and the Search for Golden Sun: A New Adventure
The highly anticipated film, «Dora and the Search for Golden Sun,» immediately intrigued me as it is the first live-action feature set in the world of «Dora the Explorer.» Following the success of the 2019 movie «Dora and the Lost Gold City,» which was insubstantial but charming, I was curious to see if a new cast and production team could maintain or even improve upon the original tone.
The new film follows teenager Dora (Samantha Lorraine) as she embarks on a quest to find the artifact of the Incan mythical golden sun before Camila (Daniella Pineda), a former television star turned sour and selfish. Along for the journey are Dora’s cousin Diego (Jacob Rodríguez), his girlfriend Naiya (Mariana Garzón Toro), and Naiya’s brother Sonny (Acston Luca Porto).
Unfortunately, «The Search for Golden Sun» falls into a tedious middle ground between good and bad, lacking the texture of its predecessor. The CGI effects for iconic characters like Boots and Swiper are questionable, with Boots being described as a Lovecraftian abomination that disrupts the visual cohesion of the film.
Despite its shortcomings, the cast of «Dora and the Search for Golden Sun» is commendable. Samantha Lorraine and Jacob Rodríguez embody their characters well, while Daniella Pineda’s unique take on her role as a villain adds depth to the story. However, the generic dialogue and lackluster script hinder the actors from truly shining.
Overall, «Dora and the Search for Golden Sun» is a mostly decent diversion for young audiences. While it may lack the charm of the original material, it manages to provide family entertainment without being outright terrible. The film neither honors nor mocks its source material, resulting in a passable viewing experience.
In conclusion, «Dora and the Search for Golden Sun» offers a new adventure in the beloved world of Dora the Explorer, though it may not surpass its predecessor in terms of quality. With a competent cast and some entertaining moments, the film serves as a fun option for families looking for light-hearted entertainment.
