Jimmy Kimmel is one of the most iconic late-night talk show hosts in the country, having made his big break at ABC in 2003. Surprisingly, he almost lost the job to Jon Stewart, who was already a successful anchor at the time.
In a podcast with Ted Danson, Kimmel revealed that both he and Stewart were candidates for what is now known as «Jimmy Kimmel Live!» They shared the same manager, James Dixon, who was close to finalizing Stewart’s deal with ABC. However, ABC President Lloyd Braun decided to watch Kimmel’s audition tape at the last minute and was impressed enough to show it to Bob Iger. They both agreed that Kimmel was the right choice for the job.
Kimmel was so surprised by ABC’s decision that he jokingly asked Iger why they chose him over someone as well-known as Stewart. Iger’s response was simple: «You were cheaper.» While everyone laughed at the answer, Kimmel believed it was likely true.
Reflecting on the situation, Kimmel admitted that he personally thought ABC made a mistake by hiring him over Stewart. He felt that Stewart would have been the better choice for the job. «El día de hoy se llevó a cabo una reunión de trabajo para discutir los avances del proyecto.
