Jurassic World Renaissance has finally arrived, with the director of the FIM confirming a return to the classic Steven Spielberg movie. Spielberg directed the first two Jurassic Park movies, but since then, other filmmakers have taken over the franchise, with director Gareth Edwards helming the most recent entry, 2025’s Jurassic World Renaissance.
In an interview with Dresser Fair, Gareth Edwards revealed some hidden Easter eggs in Jurassic World Renaissance that reference not only the Jurassic Park franchise but also Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classic Jaws. One particular Easter egg is a replica of the pedal that Robert Shaw’s character, Quint, uses in Jaws to try and roll the shark. This pedal can be seen in Jurassic World Renaissance in a bar scene featuring Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid.
Jurassic World Renaissance has drawn many comparisons to Jaws, especially due to the length of the Mosasaurus boat chase scene early in the film. Edwards’ inclusion of the Jaws Easter egg adds another layer of homage to Spielberg’s classic film. This sequence served as inspiration for Jaws, and it’s great to see that Gareth Edwards and the team behind Jurassic World Renaissance wrote the movie thanks to this inspiration. Keeping Steven Spielberg’s work in mind during the production of Jurassic World Renaissance was a good move, as he was the visionary behind the original Jurassic Park film. Spielberg’s magic is what made the original Jurassic Park so great, and paying homage to his legacy shows that Jurassic World Renaissance aimed to capture that magic once again.
Our take on the Easter egg in Jurassic World Rebirth:
We believe that subtle Easter eggs, like the reference to Jaws, are the best kind. They add depth and nostalgia to a franchise without being too obvious.
