The newspaper La Opinión reduced its physical format to just one publication per week. The economic crisis was one of the determining factors for this decision.
Last January, they had alternated with the newspaper Castellanos (after a history of rivalry, they now share an owner). The reason? The devaluation caused costs to skyrocket, while the burst of inflation made many people stop buying the physical newspaper.
Below is the statement issued by the newspaper in its today’s edition:
“We want to highlight the strong growth of our digital edition. On the portal www.diariolaopinion.com.ar we increase our news production, which in turn is replicated on social networks, which receives recognition every day from both our readers and our sponsors. We are excited about new projects and challenges.
“It is also true that things are not improving in this Argentina in critical condition. The economy is in the red and companies in different sectors are weakened by a negative equation, with the sustained rise in production costs and the fall in income.
“Faced with this scenario, in January Diario LA OPINIÓN reduced its paper edition to four weekly editions. The impact, especially printing costs, was decisive. Since that moment, market conditions have not improved and short-term expectations are not encouraging, beyond the inflationary slowdown.
Therefore, from now on, LA OPINION will be printed only once a week. It will be on Fridays.
Once again, it is appropriate to thank each of the protagonists of “our ecosystem” for their trust. Our staff, the canillitas, the companies and organizations that accompany us advertising and especially the readers.
“Thank you all.”
