After Justice ordered preventive detention for the former director general of the Investigative Police (PDI) Sergio Muñozaccused of having allegedly leaked secret information in different cases, the Government spokesperson, Camila VallejoI affirm that «There are indications» of a possible «collar and tie» corruption network.
«This has revealed signs of a possible collar and tie corruption network. A network that was possibly organized to hinder investigative work in different cases associated with corruption by the Prosecutor’s Office.»said the spokesperson for La Moneda in a press conference.
Vallejo asserted that this possible network involves «not only the former director general of the PDI, an extremely relevant institution, but also «former government officials and political leaders, until now, of the opposition.»
«The sole possibility that this has hindered the work of the Prosecutor’s Office produces itching«said the Secretary of State.
Yesterday, the judge Francis Fellwhich accepted the request for the precautionary measure proposed by the Public Ministry and the State Defense Council (CDE), both plaintiffs in the case, explained that «preventive detention for now is essential for the success of the investigation (…) Given the above, preventive detention is proportional and necessary for danger to the security of society and to the success of the investigation proceedings.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, these are several leaks about five judicial cases that Muñoz supposedly leaked to the lawyer. Luis Hermosillaone of the most influential in the country and protagonist of another judicial case that is also being investigated, the so-called «Hermosilla case»about alleged irregular payments to officials of various institutions to obtain privileged information.

The investigation against Muñoz came to light on Friday, when the Prosecutor’s Office ordered the search of his house and office, two events that shocked the country and pushed the now former head of the PDI to resign hours later.
The Public Ministry identified, among others, five revelations with the sending of «official photos» about the case that affects his predecessor in office, Hector Espinosa, accused of embezzlement of public funds and money laundering and who left the leadership of the PDI cornered by this case. His defense attorney was Hermosilla himself for a time.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, four other leaks are related to the controversial Dominga case, in which the late former president was involved. Sebastian Piñera.

Muñoz’s defense, Juan Carlos Manriquezwho litigated to avoid prison for his client, assured that his client fell under the «charm» of Hermosilla, after he assured him that he was representing Piñera, then President.

The investigation against Muñoz coincides with the case faced by the general director of Carabineros, Ricardo Yanez, due to omission of illegitimate pressures resulting in serious injuries and homicide during the social outbreak of 2019.
