OCCUPANCY OF CRITICAL BEDS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Regarding the availability of critical beds, the Undersecretary of Care Networks, Osvaldo Salgadoreported that «in the pediatric critical beds we have approximately 700 beds available in both the public and private sectorsof which, there is 70% occupancythat is, we have a capacity in pediatrics that is not completely occupied.
«In adults, the situation is a little different. Traditionally we have more work than in pediatrics. However, in critical beds, of which we have more than 4,000, many more in the public than private sector, occupancy due to respiratory causes is 15%, a little more than the previous week,» he explained.
For his part, the academic from the University of Chile and Oncobiomed researcher, Flavio Salazar, provided recommendations to prevent the circulation of viruses and pointed out that «it results from the fact that what one has to stop is the expansion, because An individual person can handle an illness like the flu or a bad cold, but not everyone can.»
«So what you have to do is stop that circulation, and what you have to do is stop that circulation. When you have a cold, You do not have to expose yourself to contact with other people, you must wear masks and you must avoid being in closed spaces because it can infect people and some of those people who infect it may suffer more than necessary,» added the professor in conversation with Cooperative.
«But, vaccination, staying in open spaces and wearing a mask are the main methods to reduce the viral load in the population,» he stated.
