The Government made a positive assessment of the way in which the Metropolitan region resisted the frontal system that, on Tuesday, produced rain and snowfall; but in the Valparaíso Region, victims and authorities denounced the leak of some of the emergency homes delivered after the summer fires.
In the capital «what was expected was fulfilled in all dimensions: it rained, it snowed, there were lightning, thunderstorms; everything that the Meteorological Directorate indicated and for which we had prepared as a city… We can say that, within everything, the city worked very well«, commented the metropolitan regional director of the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service, Miguel Muñoz.
In the same line, the delegate presidential Constanza Martínez pointed out that the series of coordinations developed in advance «they left no room for improvisation«There were 16 Serviu crews deployed in each of the places where there was flooding.»
«What touched us the most, in terms of citizen demand, had to do with some power cuts that occurred in some parts,» added the Government authority.
27 millimeters of precipitation fell in the Metropolitan Region -including the snow in the foothills sectors-, while in Valparaíso it was 22 millimeters. In both cases they were within what the authorities expected.
PROBLEMS IN THE VINEYARD
The V Region regretted, however, the already mentioned leaks: «We have most of the houses without the plastic eaves outside, so water entered through the doors of Senapred’s houses, and most of them are wet,» he said. Angélica Hidalgo, leader of the Villa La Pradera Camp in Viña del Mar.
«Here we have 34 houses that belong to Senapred, and most are wet. There is even one that is in danger of collapsing, because in order to install it they had to make a pit – so that the land would be more or less flat -, and now due to that removal, with the saturation of water the land is collapsing,» Hidalgo explained.
Also in Viña del Mar, in the Sunset Town, close to Villa Independencianeighbors had to cover the emergency houses with plastic, and the Mayor Macarena Ripamonti He indicated that this shows that the homes do not meet the required standards.
«Since Friday, we have delivered dozens of meters of polyethylene plastic to cover the houses. We are making a very complete report of all homes of emergency that are transitory and? did not meet technical standardsand they have families that are damp, wet, and that have had leaks because they were not built properly. This report will be sent to the corresponding authorities«said the Frente Amplista communal leader.
