Talamasca: The Secret Order Expands AMC’s Immortal Universe in Intriguing Ways
Talamasca: The Secret Order is the latest series in AMC’s Immortal Universe, a franchise based on the works of Anne Rice. It joins Interview with the Vampire, whose season 3 is set to release in 2026, and Mayfair Witches, which is expected to begin filming its season 3 next year. While this universe has not felt very connected, Talamasca aims to change that by further developing the world of Rice’s iconic characters and shedding light on a group that’s more accustomed to staying in the shadows.
The series stars Nicholas Denton as Guy Anatole, a clairvoyant who reluctantly joins Helen (Elizabeth McGovern), an agent of Talamasca, a clandestine organization that monitors all supernatural activity. Guy’s motivation to join is fueled by the revelation that his mother is alive and that she will help him find her in exchange for his assistance in stopping a vampire who has infiltrated the Talamasca offices in London. This sets the stage for a tense spy game with high stakes.
It’s a pretty engaging spy thriller with the added fun of throwing vampires, witches, and more into the mix.
Talamasca: The Secret Order is not based on any specific Rice novel but is inspired by the world of those stories, seamlessly integrating into the Immortal Universe. The series delves into the intriguing organization of the Talamasca, revealing mysterious agendas within its ranks. The show excels in peeling back layers of mystery, from Guy’s search for his mother to the quest for a crucial book containing Talamasca records, all while maintaining a fast pace and delivering impactful revelations.
William Fichtner Steals the Show as the Franchise’s New Vampire
With a narrative unconstrained by Rice’s books, Talamasca introduces new characters alongside established ones like Daniel Molloy and Raglan James from the Immortal Universe. Nicholas Denton shines as Guy Anatole, holding his own against solid performances from co-stars like Elizabeth McGovern and Jason Schwartzman. However, it’s William Fichtner’s portrayal of vampire Jasper that truly captivates, adding charm, humor, and menace to the supernatural world.
His level of camp is perfectly honed, elevating the show’s entertainment value.
Talamasca: The Secret Order may not reach the heights of Interview with the Vampire, but it holds its own as a compelling story with strong performances and a promising premise for the Immortal Universe’s future cohesion. The series strikes a balance between mystery, action, and supernatural elements, offering a solid viewing experience with room for growth.
Talamasca: The Secret Order premieres on October 26 on AMC and AMC+, inviting viewers into a world where spies, vampires, and witches collide in thrilling ways.
