The Tierra del Fuego Bank carried out the free and open training called “And who is going to hack me?” in which attendees were able to learn about different types of scams and obtained necessary recommendations to safely navigate their digital lives, an aspect that ranges from their social networks to their financial operations.
The talk was given by Emiliano Piscitelli, cybersecurity speaker, CEO and co-founder of VHGroup, with more than 15 years of experience in the industry who delved into current problems such as scams and deception over the Internet, security on social networks, use of devices safely, types of scams and general recommendations emphasizing the importance of people as the first barrier of defense against attacks by scammers.
“Cybercriminals are criminals who use technological means to carry out their scams. Therefore, we must cut off their access: we must not respond to emails, we must end phone calls, we must not respond to text messages or click on links sent via WhatsApp. If we cut off access, we end the cyber scam. “In the same way that we do not give the keys to our house to anyone, we should not share the access codes to our digital life,” Piscitelli exemplified.
Furthermore, the specialist reiterated that “criminals are constantly improving themselves. Therefore, we must be alert. They use a context to create a pretext. In the case of banks, they lead us to click on a link because they have supposedly blocked our account or because we must update our data to continue operating with the financial institution. There is always a pretext within a context, such as a payment from ANSES, registering on a list to obtain the IFE, a promotion to acquire a product with high demand, such as covers with nails, or even during the 2022 World Cup, offering figurines to a promotional price.”
The public present was also able to participate in a question and answer session to investigate particular situations and thus have a better understanding of cybersecurity and how to protect themselves from criminals.
