Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
After the massive success of the 2024 sequel, director Tim Burton has announced his next project. 36 years after the original 1988 Beetlejice, the highly anticipated follow-up to Burton’s Cult Comedy Horror film grossed $451.9 million worldwide, surpassing its original $99 million budget.
Despite the significant gap between the first and second installments in the Beetlejuice franchise, plans for Beetlejuice 3 are already in the works. Warner Bros. Pictures CEO, Michael de Luca, stated in April that work on a third film should commence soon.
However, in a recent interview with Millennium, Burton hinted that his next project will be in animation. With previous successes like The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, and Frankenweenie, Burton expressed excitement about the upcoming animated venture.
I am working on something that is an animated project, yes. So I hope to have a script soon and then I will take it from there. But it is something that excites me a lot.
Despite Warner Bros.’ announcement of the development of Beetlejuice 3, Burton’s recent comments suggest that he may have other priorities at the moment. Alongside the animated project, Burton is also linked to a new version of the 1958 film The Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman.
For fans of Burton, the prospect of his return to animation is eagerly anticipated, considering it was his original platform. Known for his traditional Stop-Motion techniques, Burton’s future project is likely to continue this trend, steering away from modern computer-generated imagery.
As for Beetlejuice 3, the timeline remains uncertain, but Warner Bros. will undoubtedly aim to ensure Burton maintains focus on the third installment amidst his other projects. Both the studio and the audience are unlikely to wait another 36 years for a follow-up.
Our Take on Tim Burton’s Next Animated Movie
Don’t Expect «The Nightmare Before Christmas 2»
While Burton’s new animated project may spark speculation about a sequel to The Nightmare Before Christmas, it seems unlikely to be his current focus. Having previously emphasized the uniqueness of the original film, Burton appears to lack interest in revisiting his most iconic animated creation.
Nevertheless, Burton is expected to infuse his upcoming animation with his signature style of imagery that has defined his work. Though it may not be the anticipated sequel to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, there are plenty of reasons to be excited about what the filmmaker has in store.
