Carabineros from the Tocorpuri Retention Center, in the Antofagasta Region, managed to rescue a vicuña that was trapped in the mud inside a wetland more than 4,200 meters above sea level and with -2 degrees of temperature. Once extracted, Carabineros took the frightened and tired animal to the detachment, where they removed the mud from its fur and dried it, and then handed the vicuña to SAG personnel, who evaluated its state of health and subsequently released it so that it could be reunited with his pack.
