After the premiere of TI: Welcome to Derry, the beloved horror franchise is finally back, this time through the world of television. Episode 1 of TI: Welcome to Derry wasted no time putting the audience through the terrifying lens of the supernatural threat.
During an interview with ScreenRant, Ash Crossan spoke with the cast of TI: Welcome to Derry, while co-showrunners Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane gave more details on their vision for the future of the series. Fuchs mentioned, «That’s the plan, but someone has to let us do it,» as HBO has yet to formally announce a Season 2 reboot.
«Obviously, IT falls asleep and wakes up in 27-year increments. We were focused on this chapter of IT’s history, but we know that 27 years earlier, other spooky things were happening in Derry,» Fuchs explained. With the HBO drama, it’s about expanding the mythology.
Fuchs further explained, «We know a little bit of what is suggested, in terms of that previous IT cycle, based on Mike Hanlon’s interludes in the original book. So yes, if the public wanted to follow the path, we would obviously be delighted.»
Caleb Kane confirmed that «Andy [Muschietti] wanted to do the interludes of the book, which were never done,» when approaching the prequel series. With the show revisiting the horror of Pennywise, the co-showrunner added, «So we’re talking about every 27 years Pennywise comes out, the entity comes out and terrorizes Derry.»
The fellow writer also highlighted that there is a lot of territory to explore in the timeline they visit throughout the series, stating, «So in 1989, he comes out, he’s the clown. 27 years earlier, you go back and you’re in 1962, and you can do a story about America in 1962, which, obviously, an entity that uses fear and terror to divide and terrorize, you can imagine what’s going on in America in 1962.»
Caleb Kane confirms, «We delved into some of that, so we wanted to do that aspect of the story. If we go back another 27 years, we have the Depression, bank robbers, a gangster movie, and the Bradley Gang.»
In conclusion, the co-showrunner emphasized that they can really take advantage of many of the interludes, «If you go back another 27 years, you have 1908.»
El director realmente quería incluir todos estos interludios que se ven en el libro y darles vida, esa fue su idea. «Welcome to Derry» consta de ocho episodios dirigidos por Andy Muschietti.
