Yellowstone star Luke Grimes reacts to the current title of its next spin-off. Although the original Yellowstone concluded with season 5, some of the key Western characters will soon lead their own shows. Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will reprise their respective roles for a spin-off of Beth and Rig, planned for Paramount+. As for Grimes, the original Yellowstone actor will return as Kayce Dutton for the CBS drama Y: Marsales debuting in the spring of 2026.
In an Instagram post, Grimes reacted to the news that Y: Marsales is moving forward on CBS and shared the title: «The jeans do not say goodbye, they say we see you later.» The post, included below, has almost 79 thousand likes at the time of writing. It has also received support from several of Grimes’ peers, with Kisses Stand actor Joel Courtney and others chiming in to offer congratulations.
What the New Title Means for the Yellowstone Spin-Off
Kayce Begins a New Chapter
Y: Marsales is the working title of the spin-off, indicating that the future direction may change. However, the premise of the spin-off will see Kayce leaving the Dutton family ranch to join the Navy Seals. This shift is also reflected in the creative team of the spin-off. The series will be led by Spencer Hudnut, the executive producer of Seal Team, serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside franchise creator Taylor Sheridan, David C. Glasser for 101 Studios, John Linson, and Art Linson. The official synopsis is detailed below:
With Yellowstone’s ranch in the rearview, Dutton joins an elite unit of American sheriffs, blending his Navy and Seal skills to bring justice to the Montana range, where he and his team must navigate family, duty, and the high psychological toll that comes with being the last line of defense in the region’s battle against violence.
It is not yet known which characters from the Yellowstone cast will appear or if there will be crossovers with the Beth and Rip series titled Dutton Ranch. Nonetheless, it appears that following the central character John Dutton’s death, the Yellowstone franchise continues by splitting John’s children and sending them on different paths.
Our Take on Y: Marshals
Much is TBD
To its credit, CBS has a track record of launching series and ensuring they find an audience. This will likely be the case with Y: Marsales, given its built-in audience. However, there are still questions about the cast and how Kayce’s family, for example, will influence this new storyline. Based on initial details, it does not appear that the spin-off plans to continue what came before and will take advantage of exploring Kayce more extensively, a character that had been relatively underexplored during Yellowstone.
