Exploring the World of Canon: A Comparison to ELDEN RING
When I first played ELDEN RING, I was amazed by the expansive and majestic lands between it. The feeling of astonishment was unparalleled, making me feel like the world was larger than anything I could have imagined.
Canon’s Unique Setting in Limveld
Canon takes place in an alternative version of ELDEN RING’s Limgrave, known as Limveld. While the map changes slightly in each game, the basic design remains static. Unfortunately, players do not get to explore iconic regions like Caelid or Altus Plateu fully. The time limitations in Canon make exploration stressful, with little emphasis on admiring the landscape.
The Scale Divide Between Nightreign and ELDEN RING
Canon may be beautifully designed, but it fails to capture the vast scale of ELDEN RING. The time constraints restrict the exploration, leading to a sense of familiarity after encountering a few enemies. The lack of encouragement to explore further diminishes the sense of curiosity and wonder.
«The feeling of curiosity, discovery, and astonishment that comes with seeing a new environment for the first time are simply not there in Nightreign to the same degree.»
In ELDEN RING, players are encouraged to explore every corner thoroughly, fostering a sense of discovery and amazement. This feeling is lacking in Canon, where exploration is limited, and the environment feels less immersive.
Nostalgia for ELDEN RING in Canon
Canon may introduce new enemies and bosses, but the recycled assets and limited map variety lead to a sense of nostalgia for ELDEN RING. Players long for more diverse experiences and detailed environments, which Limveld fails to provide.
While Canon is visually appealing, it does not do justice to the vast lands of ELDEN RING. The lack of diversity in maps and exploration experiences leaves players yearning for more.
Looking to the Future of Canon
It remains to be seen if Canon will introduce alternative maps outside Limveld in future DLC or expansions. Diversifying the map design could enhance the exploration and discovery aspects, providing a more fulfilling experience for players.
