Upcoming NBC Comedy Series: Forklift
Four years after the show ended, Hypermarket is one step closer to getting a perfect replacement on NBC. Debuting in November 2015 and running until March 2021, this comedy created by Justin Spitzer followed a group of employees working in a fictional Big-Box store called Cloud 9.
The show featured a cast including America Ferrera, Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, Nico Santos, Nichole Sakura, and Mark McKinney. Despite receiving strong criticism, the comedy developed a loyal audience over six seasons and more than 100 episodes. However, NBC executives shifted their focus to newer comedy titles.
Deadline reports that a new warehouse comedy series titled Forklift is currently in development at NBC. Comedian Chris Estrada will serve as the executive producer and star in the single-camera series. Estrada previously created and starred in Hulu’s comedy This Fool, which ran for two seasons and achieved a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
What to Know About Forklift
It’s Inspired by Estrada’s Experiences
Forklift follows Victor (Estrada), a forklift driver who gets promoted to Warehouse Supervisor. However, Victor soon realizes that his promotion comes at a cost, as his friends and co-workers start seeing him differently.
The show is based on Estrada’s real-life experiences while he was still working in a warehouse when he learned about Hulu’s plans for This Fool. Despite being an underrated gem during its short run, critics praised the humor and unique tone of This Fool.
Forklift is co-written by Estrada and Rick Cisario, and Jordan Tilzer and Kent Alterman and Sarah Babineau of Good Walk serve as executive producers. Produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, the series arrives as NBC seeks to expand its comedy offerings after the success of San Denis Medical.
Our Take on Forklift’s Connection to Superstore
The Potential Is There
Estrada will bring his unique perspective to the story. Following the planned spin-off of Hypermarket that never materialized, Forklift has the potential to fill a similar void with its configuration and approach that may resonate with fans of other comedies. This bodes well for Estrada, possibly attracting a larger audience than Hulu’s critically acclaimed This Fool.
