Nosferatu is an official adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Released in 1922 as a German expressionist film by FW Murnau, Nosferatu is now considered one of the most influential horror movies in cinema history and a classic. Over 100 years later, a new remake of Nosferatu was created with Robert Eggers as the writer and director.
Eggers’ version of Nosferatu transports the audience to the early 1800s to follow Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp), who, as a young girl, summoned a supernatural being to combat her loneliness. In 1838, now married to Thomas (Nicholas Hoult), Ellen and her family are haunted by the decrepit vampire Count Orlok (Bill Skarsgård). The film includes changes and additions to Murnau’s original, as well as a key difference from Stoker’s novel that adds a heartbreaking element to the story.
