Descubre el futuro de la saga Sisu: Road to Revenge
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Sisu: Road to Revenge.
Sisu: Road to Revenge Director Jalmari Helander addresses whether there will be a third film after the emotional ending of the second. The film follows a former commando, Aatami Korpi (Jorma Tommila), who seeks to rebuild his family home but finds himself pursued by Igor Draganov (Stephen Lang), a Soviet Red Army officer responsible for killing his family.
At the end of Sisu: Road to Revenge, Aatami kills Igor and avenges the death of his family. In the final moments, Aatami is seen rebuilding his house and enlisting the help of members of the local community.
In an interview with ScreenRant by Grant Hermanns for the second installment, Helander was asked if he envisions this as the end of the story or if there will be more of Aatami taking on the Red Army. Helander finds the path of revenge to be a satisfactory and «beautiful» conclusion for Aatami but acknowledges that the series could continue if he has an idea for a third film.
«I like to think that this is a very beautiful ending to the Aatami Korpi story. But at the same time you never know. Someday I might have an idea for the third one. Let’s see.»
Sisu: Road to Revenge reviews have been excellent, leading to an impressive 96% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. ScreenRant Gregory Nussen praises the film’s action, as «Helander’s ability to effectively stage a brutal action sequence is excellent» and congratulates the final act for being «among the most electrifying and tense sequences of the genre.»
The action-packed sequel is also resonating with audiences, who gave it a score of 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics and audience scores are on par with the first Sisu film, released in 2022, with critics giving it a critical score of 94% and audiences 88%.
Comparisons to John Wick and Future Possibilities
Both Sisu films have been compared to John Wick films, of which there are now five after the spin-off film Ballerina starring Ana de Armas. While Aatami’s story is arguably complete, much like John Wick’s, there is a chance for the series to continue, especially after the overwhelmingly positive response from viewers.
However, Helander is not going to create another sequel for the sake of it. With Aatami defeating Igor and now rebuilding his home alongside others, his story has ended in a good place for now. There would need to be a compelling reason for Aatami to leave this peace behind and get involved once again with Sisu ultraviolent action.
After the publication in the United States of Sisu: Road to Revenge, the actor who plays Igor will star in another action sequel. Lang reprises his role as the Na’vi version of Miles Quaritch in Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third installment in James Cameron’s lucrative sci-fi action franchise, which hits theaters on December 19.
