The National Government decided to modify an essential document that enables the vehicular circulation in the Argentine Republic. In this way, through a statement they indicated the elimination of the blue card and the certificate that will be requested as its replacement.
What is the blue card
The blue card It was part of the documentation required to drive a vehicle, along with the DNI, driver’s license, proof of current insurance and proof of Mandatory Technical Inspection (RTO) or Vehicle Technical Verification (VTV). It was established for the purpose of documenting the authorization of a third party to operate a vehicle. In this way, the procedure was carried out by the owner and each vehicle model could have more than one ID assigned to it. With this document, the authorized person, even if not the owner of the car, was legally authorized to drive.
What changes did the blue card undergo?
The National Government, through a statement from the Ministry of Justice, indicated a series of measures, among which are:
- 40% of the Automotive Registries will be closed, starting with those that have been intervened for more than 2 years, and then the remaining intervened ones will be closed.
- 30% of the staff of the Automotive Registry Directorate will be reduced, within the framework of a voluntary retirement and early retirement plan.
- The “blue card” will be eliminated: starting in May, any person will be able to circulate within the territory of the Argentine Republic with the sole display, both physical or digital, of the green card of the car owner.
- The expiration of all “green cards” will be eliminated.
What is the green card
The green card, known as the Single Vehicle Identification Card, is the vehicle identification document used in Argentina, which includes data such as the domain, name and document of the owner, brand, model, as well as chassis and engine numbers. This document is granted to the owner of the car by the National Directorate of Automotive Registration and Pledge Credits (DNRPA), and is essential to be able to circulate with the corresponding vehicle.
